Locally, your Grand Ronde tribal ental clinic will be coordinating World Health Day events uch as Open House, Thursday, April 7, from 12:00 noon to :00 P.M. Oral disease continues to be a significant health roblem in the American Indian population. Your dental rogram strives to prevent as much dental disease as possible hrough organized prevention programs and to limit existing isease through active clinical programs. World Health Day in the United States emphasizes nvolvement in promoting oral health. On the national level, he American Association for World Health, in cooperation iththeWorldHealthOrganizationandtheU.S.Department f Health and Human Services is coordinating activities round the country for World Health Day. Here in Grand Ronde, Tribal Chairman Mark Mercier will be officially endorsing April 7th as World Health Day at the Dental Clinic Open House. We will also be welcoming our new dentist, Dr. Scott van Dyken. The children skated towards dental health as they participated in activities centered around healthy teeth. Children got to role play being a dentist, dental assistant, or patient fully garbed. Ultrabright toothpaste was the winner in the toothpaste tase testing contest. Children got to see how acidic the plaque on their teeth really is, and applied dental sealants to real teeth mounted in plaster. They learned how teeth get cavities and how much "hidden sugar" is in their favorite foods. Everyone had a great time skating and lcarnming about dental care. CHR Wins Award Bonnie Martin-Tom, Community Health Representative, won recognition with the National Association of Community Health Representatives for her commitment and service to the Tribe. During the National Triennial Education Conference in Spokane, Bonnie will be given a special shoulder sash to wear and special seating at the banquet dinner. It will be held April 18-21.
