This year's conference will focus on mobilizing youth through development of effective youth councils, to make a positive difference in their communities. It will be a youth-led conference with youth keynote speakers. The Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs has tentatively scheduled a field hearing on the proposed "Indian Youth Leadership Act" for June 29, in conjunc tion with the conference. American Indian, Alaska Native and Canadian Indian youth, ages 15-24 and their adult advisors, tribal leaders and elders accompanying a youth delegation are invited. (Adults without a youth delegation are not encouraged.) The conference officially begins at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 28, and adjourns at noon, Tuesday, July 2. Some of the activities include a Friday night get-acquainted party, traditional feast and pow-wow, Saturday, variety show, Sunday night; banquet and dance, Monday night. This will be my last issue as editor of the "Smoke Signals" since I have accepted a posi tion with the Northwest Indian Fisheries Com mission in Washington. Although it has been an up and down two years since coming to work for the Tribe in May of 1989, 1 feel that lama better person for the experience and the things that I have learned. I will always do my best to represent the people of Grand Ronde in the best possible way that I can and, I can't wait for the Pow Wow.
