Scholorship Update At the 1989 annual AISES conference in Minneapolis, AISES awarded $1,000 scholarships to 133 very talented and deserving science and engineering students. Every year we have seen an increase in the number of student applicants and certainly the quality has not diminished. As we continue to grow, we hope to award as many or more at the annual AISES conference next year in Buffalo, New York. A big "thank you" goes to all current scholarship recipients, most of you have responded well in writing thank you letters to your corporate donors. Remember that you must reapply again for the 1990-91 scholarship awards. We will be breaking tradition in the next scholarship cycle. In past years the names of scholarship recipients were withheld until the night of the awards ceremony at the conference. This year, however, each scholarship winner will be notified prior to the conference. We would like to see all the scholarship winners join us at the conference to accept their awards. Sponsoring corporations are very interested in meeting their scholarship winners and this will allow corporate representatives to have personal contact with the student. For some, this means career andor summer employment opportunities. The scholarship applications for 1990-91 will be mailed in February to current AISES members. If you are a current member as of February 1, 1990, and do not receive an application by March 15, call AISES to request another. Please adhere to the August 1, deadline. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.
