PAGE 4 EDUCATION vJ5 OREGON SCHOLARSHIPS The State of Oregon has established 146 awards worth approximately $1,500 each, that waive tuition and fees for an academic year. These awards are granted to selected first -time freshmen minority students for the 1988089 school year. These awards may be used at any of the eight State System colleges or universities (East ern Oregon State College, Western Oregon State College, Portland State University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Oregon State University, University of Oregon, Southern Oregon State College and Oregon Health Sciences University.) High school seniors and first time students who will be entering college next Fall 1988, should consider apply ing. To be eligible you must be: 1. U.S. citizen or permanent resident; 2. Oregon resident; 3. Graduate of an Oregon high school or GED certifi cate recepient (GED applicants must provide an official copy of their GED scores); 4. Able to meet the regular admission requirements of the institution they plan to enroll (summer session and special admission alternatives are excluded); 5. Able to be enrolled as a first-time freshman (OHSU exempted); 6. Committed to the pursuit of a bachelor's degree; 7. A member of one of the following eligible ethnic racial groups: American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black American or Hispanic. Application Deadline applications and supplementary materials must be postmarked by March 1, 1987. You are strongly urged to apply as early as possible. You can begin applying now. Many representatives from Oregon colleges & universities indicated the number of American Indian applicants was very low last year. This award is renewable up to 5 years. You don't have to be a straight A student, you have to meet the academic and admission requirements of the school you plan on attending. GRADE REPORTS DUE Students currently receiving Higher Education or Employment Assistance - Adult Vocational Training, tribal grants, concluding Fall Term, no awards will be made until we have received a copy of your Fall Term grades. Deadline for submitting grades to the Tribal Education Program is January 6th, 1987. To continue eligibility for assistance, you must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and earn 12 or more credit hours per term. APPLICATION DEADLINE A reminder to all students wishing to enroll in school for Winter Term 1988 or wishing to obtain tribal assistance for Higher Education and Adult Vocational Training, the deadline for submitting your application packets to . the Tribal Education Program is NOVEMBER 31, 1987. You can obtain an application packet by calling 879-5211, ext. 124 or writing to the Education Program, Box 38, Grand Ronde, OR 97347. Applications received after November 31st, will be considered for SPRING Term 1988. Please realize that you must file an FAF for the 1987-88 school year to establish financial need. Call 879-5211 if you have questions. FINANCIAL AID FORMS New students who plan on entering school next Fall Term 1988, and students (current) who will be returning to school next Fall, will need to complete a Financial Aid Form (FAF) for the 1988-'89 school year. These applications will be available after January 1st, 1988. You can obtain these applications from any of the schools you will plan to attend, by contacting the Financial Aid Office. High School students can obtain this information from the counseling center at your school. To be considered a "priority" and eligible for all federal grants and financial aid available, you should file your FAF no later than January 31st, 1988. Don't wait. FAMILY MATH REUNION For all those that have participated at one time in the Family Math Program.
