On August 10th, Congressman Les AuCoin conducted a local hearing at Grand Ronde Elementary School regarding the Tribe's reservation plan. Atten dance was estimated at 200 people. Many people traveled a long way to support our reservation proposal. These people included Mike Clements and Delbert Frank from the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs; Marjean Whitehouse from the Jefferson County Chamber of Commence in Madras, fomer tribal restoration coordinator, Elizabeth Furse from Hillsboro and Peter Murphy, representing Murphy Lumber from Springfield, Oregon. These people and many others presented excellent testimony on our behalf and we are deeply gratified for their support As of now, Congress is In recess and will reconvene on September 10th. I urge every one of you to continue to write letters in support of a 15,665 acre reservation. It is very important to let the Congressional delegation know of your support as the process begins to be wind down. I also wish to thank all of the people who participated in this year's annual pow wow. The first person I wish to thank is Val Grout and her children, men you are preparing a meal for 1,000 people, one can appreciate the extremely hard work this took. My thanks to Joann McClary and Mary Ring for coordinating the tribal pageant, the first ever. Also, the Council thanks Greg Archuleta, for all the hard work he did during the Pow wow and the clean-up afterward. There just Isn't enough room for me to list all of the people who pitched in for this year's pow wow, but the Tribal Council knows, and greatly appreciates all the hard work done to make this important annual event a great success.
