ENROLLMENT FW PQW WQW - ENROLLMENT REPORT Dear Fellow Tribal Members and Friends, The total enrollment of our tribe now numbers 2130. In the month of April we have added 46 applicants to our membership roll. Congratulations to all our new members! Also in April, a training workshop was held for the Enrollment Committee to review the regulations regarding name changes and inclusion of other tribal blood. It is very important to keep our of fice and the B.I. A. informed of any name changes. To change a client's name on the membership roll, documen tation must be provided, and the name change approved by Tribal Council. A client must provide a legal document (divorce, adoption or legal name change decree, marriage license, etc.) stating their new name. If a copy of the documentation is not available, a notarized statement will be acceptable. The statement must include the client's previous name, reason for change and the date the change became effective. I have forms for a notarized statement that I will be happy to mail on request. The Grand Ronde Tribe will include a client's possession of other federally-recognized tribal blood. The minimum blood quantum requirement for enrollment in Grand Ronde is 116 degree total Indian blood. A client must provide certification of Indian blood for the other tribe that they wish to include in their total Indian blood quantum. The certificate must be issued by the federally-recognized tribe, B.I. A. or the Department of the Interior. The roll number and blood quantum must be listed. If the certificate was issued for a client's parent or grandparent, birth documen tation to trace descendancy to said member must also be provided. A client's blood quantum will be listed as possessing 12 of the par ents' combined Indian blood degree. All blood quantums for applicants or members are determined by the docu mentation provided as proof of pos session of Indian blood. Our Tribe's 1954 termination roll is used to pro vide documentation of possession of Grand Ronde Indian blood. Some of the blood quantums listed on this roll are incorrect by a mathematical error. A procedure is used to cor rect a mathematical error. If a mem ber wishes to correct their blood quantum, but a mathematical error is not evident, a different procedure must be followed. A blood quantum change must be submitted to the B.I. A. A client should submit all of the documentation available to prove the listed degree incorrect. If you feel that your blood quantum is incor rect, please contact me for more in formation There are still over 200 incomplete applications on file in my office. Even if a client receives Indian Health Services, heshe still may not be enrolled. Please check with me on your enrollment status! My thanks to all of our members who inform me of their change of address! If you have moved, please let me know. Over 300 tribal I.D. cards have been issued. The cards are photo I.D. so tribal members must be present to re ceive one. The information listed on the I.D. cards includes name, address, date of birth, roll number and blood degree. Members may drop in at the depot tribal office on Thursdays and Fridays to receive an I.D. card. The hours are 9 a.m. - 12 noon; 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. The first I.D. cards are issued at no cost to our members, age 11 and over. A $2.00 fee for replacement cards will be charged but this fee is waived for elders, age 55 and over. If you have any questions concerning the enrollment procedure or I.D. cards, please call or write to me in care of the tribal office. FISH AND WILDLIFE FISHING UPDATE: Tribal Councilman Russ Leno, son Rusty, and Marty George went cat fishing the other day. (within the Trask Unit, of course) and caught 3 nice cats. They didn't travel far. In fact they did't even travel for this hot spot. Anyway, Russ took his rod and reel and went after those cats. Russ tossed his line into the fishing hole, and not before too long, reeled one in. "Gee, thats a nice one" said Marty. Before long, Russ had caught three "nice" cats and called it a day. (Fished them all out, Russ said.) Where's his fishing spot? Inside his house. . .quite literally! It seems that Russ's cat (meow, meow kind) recently had babies in the attic. The poor critters fell between the walls. Russ, a good fisherman (ac cording to his fish tales) , took his fishing pole and made a snare from the fishing line and reeled in three cats! Quite a hot fishing day for Russ. However, before an on rush of fishermen head for Russ's hot spot, please take note. . .reservations are required! COMMITTEE OPENING The Fishing and Hunting Committee has one vacancy. If you are interested in applying, please call Greg Archuleta at 879-5215. Be sure and support their efforts. It will take a lot of work and learning on the girls' behalf. Don't forget to go and buy your frybread! The stand will be open on June 13 and 27.
