page 3 GRADUATES! CONGRATULATIONS TAMARA KENNEDY LINDA VENTRIGLIA Tribal member, Linda Warren Ven triglia, will be graduating from Western Oregon State College. She will be receiving a degree in Busi ness Administration with a minor in psychology. Linda transferred to Western Oregon State College from Southwestern Ore-' gon Community College in Coos Bay two years ago. During her two years at WOSC, she has ' 1 ' ' ! . V if , f I had many rewarding and frustrating experiences, she says. Its also been a hectic time according to Linda. She has been taking 18 credit hours per term. But overall, college courses have helped Linda in many ways. For in stance, they have given her a lot of self-confidence and self-assurance, Linda said. "You have to become involved," said Linda, and thats what she likes about the school. "I like the smallness and the atmosphere of becoming in volved," Linda said. Her courses have focused a great deal on group and individual projects - "working with people and working on responsi bility," she said. "It feels great, but I'm so used to going to school," said Linda about graduating. She's gone to college the last four years, including the last two summers. "I'm going to miss it." said Linda. On the other hand, she is excited about getting out into the real world. "I need experience. I feel good about my capabilities. My first priority will be getting a job," Linda said. "Make sure its what you want to do," she advises other potential college students. "You're going to have to put a lot of work into it. If you don't want to put the effort into it, don't even bother going," said Linda. "Its definitely a serious commit ment," she said. Linda graduates on June 13th, 1987. Her parents are tribal member Phillip Warren and Reita Pichett. Honor your traditions today, for strength tomorrow, and eagle feathers will mark your trail .... Tamara Kennedy is one of the first Grand Ronde Tribal members to gradu ate from Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon since the tribe was terminated in the 1950 's. Tamara transferred to Chemawa from McNary High School in Burns, Oregon two years ago. Tamara has enjoyed the school a lot. The best thing about Chemawa is meet ing students from many different places, according to Tamara. She enjoys English literature and plans to attend Chemeketa Community College next fall. She is interested in studing Humanities and Shakespeare. Tamara has been involved in softball and basketball. As a junior she was also involved in a "Buddies Club." The club sponsored various fundrais ing activites for social events. "It feels pretty good. No more school," said Tamara about graduat ing. Her advise to other students: "Graduate. .. finish high school and go onto college if you can," Tamara says. "Jobs are requiring a Higher Education, rather than a high school, degree. Go to school and get it done." she says. Tamara 's parents are Vernon and Ch eryl Kennedy, and to them Tamara says, "Thanks mom and dad for helping me all these school years!" r ' v T T S f '-r " y ' ."
