TO THE EDITOR March 11, 1982 Qpnf derated Tribes of Grand Ronde Grand Ronde, Oregon Pear Tribal Members: I just wanted to let you know how much 1 appreciate getting the "Smoke Signals" every month. 1 have been In Anchorage working for a rape crisis service sinc September of '81. 1 love the city and so far the climate has really been beautiful. A little cool but sunshine every day. f It' has really been fascinating for me to learn of the different Native cultures and what is-happening with the individual Native Land Claims Acts Many . people up here, speak their own dialect and English is aiaecbnd language . .They re very - ic 1 ve : in : keeping- theijp old language and traditions alive and handed down to the younger generation. Many people in the outlying villages make a living from ivory garving and basket making, The prices are really some- thing. Avery small grass basket varies in price from $50.00 to $500.00 depending on detail. ,14.-'. I will probably be up here for another year, depending on the ; economy in Oregon. Work is quite plentiful up here and salaries are good although rent is terrible. I would like "to hear'from my friends in Oregon and keep sending the paper.
