Wood, Warm Springs Housing Au- thority exective director. “There are not enough homes for the families in the community, resulting in many families living in overcrowded and substandard con- ditions. “Being able to provide an addi- tional 18 affordable and energy-ef- ficient housing units has been a gift to our community. Seeing the joy and smiles on families faces as they enter their new home was all the reward that we needed.” Travois is a Certified B Corpo- ration focused exclusively on pro- moting housing and economic de- velopment for American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawai- ian communities. Lamprey now ‘critically imperiled’ Pacific lampreys, an ancient spe- cies, have survived five mass ex- tinction events since the dawn of time. Now populations of these fish found in the Columbia River are facing a sharp downturn. Before 1970, counters at Bonneville Dam annually tallied more than 106,000 adult Pacific lampreys. Recently the count dimin- ished to 30,000 fish, according to a 2022 Pacific lamprey regional implementation plan. Like other fish in the Columbia River, Pacific lamprey populations are declining from habitat degrada- tion, passage barriers and shifting water quality, whether through pol- lution or rising temperatures. Pacific lampreys are important to Warm Springs and other regional tribes who serve lamprey alongside salmon during ceremonies, accord- ing to the Columbia River Inter- Tribal Fish Commission. Tribes of the Columbia River Basin were also the first to recognize the need to advocate for lampreys. ALEXIA EDWARDS, Peti- tioner, vs DEVERE CHAR- LEY , Respondent; Case No. RO55-22.
