Spotlight
This week’s Student Athletes at
the War m Springs Academy are
football player Louie Smith, and
volleyball player Leigh Green.
Leigh, 13, is in the eighth grade,
and playing her third year of vol-
leyball at the Warm Springs Acad-
emy. She also likes track and field,
where she throws the shot put, jav-
elin and discuss.
“I went out for track and be-
cause I wasn’t a fast runner, I
started throwing,” Leigh says. Still,
she says, volleyball is her favorite
sport.
In class she likes Language Arts
and Social Studies. Her mom is
Leigh Smith and Louie Green.
Paullee Green, and Leigh has two
brothers and two sisters. Her
younger brother also goes to the
Academy.

KNT: revenue to tribes from room tax
(Continued from page 1)
These too will be areas of
focus at the new Kah-Nee-Ta.
During the meeting last week
with Council and the board, Mr.
Hansen talked about some of
his ideas: Guided kayak tours,
whitewater rafting, mountain
bike opportunities, a major up-
grade at the stables, to name just
a few.
For their part, the tribes will
see a new revenue stream
through the room tax at the re-
sort. The tax would be 10 per-
cent during the first two years,
as the improvements are under
way, and then 15 percent there-
after.
So instead of spending
money to keep the resort open,
the tribes in 2018 will realize a
new revenue stream, Jim Manion
said. “It’s paramount that this
deal is done for the continued
operation of Kah-Nee-Ta,” he
said.
At meeting with the investors,
Chief Joe Moses said the devel-
opment is something the tribes
have needed for many years.
Some things will not change

He plays center on offense, and
tackle on defense. Because of his
skill at center, the varsity coach
called Louie up to the varsity team
while Louie was in still in the sixth
grade.
His parents are El Freda and
Antonio Gentry. He has two broth-
ers at the Academy: Trevyn, who is
in the third grade, and Elijah, kin-
