The run includes the 10k and 2-mile fun run/walk. Community center hours In recent cross country meets, the Warm Springs Acad- emy saw outstanding perfor- mances by a number of young athletes. First, the Academy hosted a home meet at the Juniper Hills park. The outstanding perfor mance on the boys’ team went to Keith Charley, who finished in second place Buff Boosters event in Oct. The 2017 Madras Buff Boosters Dinner and Auc- tion is coming up on Satur- day, October 21 at the Erickson Air Museum. There is a social hour from 5:30-6:30, and the tri- tip and chicken dinner will be served at 6:30. Eagles Spotlight This week’s Student Athletes at the War m Springs Academy are football player Louie Smith, and volleyball player Leigh Green. Leigh, 13, is in the eighth grade, and playing her third year of vol- leyball at the Warm Springs Acad- emy. She also likes track and field, where she throws the shot put, jav- elin and discuss. “I went out for track and be- cause I wasn’t a fast runner, I started throwing,” Leigh says. Still, she says, volleyball is her favorite sport. In class she likes Language Arts and Social Studies. Her mom is Leigh Smith and Louie Green. Paullee Green, and Leigh has two brothers and two sisters. Her younger brother also goes to the Academy. Louie Smith is in the eighth grade. During the meeting last week with Council and the board, Mr. Hansen talked about some of his ideas: Guided kayak tours, whitewater rafting, mountain bike opportunities, a major up- grade at the stables, to name just a few. For their part, the tribes will see a new revenue stream through the room tax at the re- sort. The tax would be 10 per- cent during the first two years, as the improvements are under way, and then 15 percent there- after. So instead of spending money to keep the resort open, the tribes in 2018 will realize a new revenue stream, Jim Manion said. “It’s paramount that this deal is done for the continued operation of Kah-Nee-Ta,” he said. At meeting with the investors, Chief Joe Moses said the devel- opment is something the tribes have needed for many years.
