Veteran to read at Memorial Wall ceremony
Tamera Calhoun served
three years in the U.S. Army,
including one year at Desert
Storm-Desert Shield during
the Gulf War. Tamera is an
active member with the
Warm Springs VFW Elliot
Palmer Post 4217.
As a VFW member she
receives email updates from
the National VFW, including
a recent one about the read-
ing of names on the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial Wall.
She responded to the
email: “I just wanted to make
sure that the name would be
read of our Warm Springs
veteran—Daniel
John
Tababoo Jr.—who was killed
in the Vietnam War,” Tamera.
Instead, she received an
invitation to read a list of
names at the upcoming
Thirty-Fifth Anniversary
Commemoration at the Viet-
nam Veterans Memorial Wall.

KWSO advisory board meeting coming up soon
KWSO radio will host their
annual Community Advisory
Board meeting on Friday, Oc-
tober 13 at 2 p.m. at the Warm
Springs Media Center.
The Community Advisory
Board is a requirement of the
Communications Act of 1934
for public broadcasting sta-
tions receiving a Community
Service Grant from the Cor-
poration for Public Broad-
casting.
The KWSO board is com-
prised of representatives
from tribal departments and
programs, as well as from lo-
cal non-profit organizations,
businesses and interested
community members. The
meeting is open to the public.
At the upcoming meeting
there will be a review of
KWSO vision and mission,
programming, goals and ac-
complishments.

November with her family
for the event. “I think it’s
important for my family to
be there,” Tamera says. Her
family, she said, was a great
support during her time over-
seas. She and her family will
be hosting fundraising events
over the coming weeks in or-
der to cover some of the ex-
penses.

the public to celebrate In-
digenous Peoples Day
at OHSU on Monday,
October 9 from 5-7 p.m.

Wild Horse Race at Simnasho
The Jamie ‘Chili Guy’
Tohet Wild Horse Race Me-
morial is this Saturday, Sep-
tember 30 at the Simnasho
Rodeo Grounds. Events be-
gin at 1 p.m.
There is a wild horse race,
a 2-plus-1 wild horse race,
ranch bronc riding, team rop-
ing, junior and senior wild
colt races, mini buckers, jun-
ior and senior broncs and ex-
tra kids’ events. The youth
events include junior barrels,
wild sheep race and a stick
horse race.
