Page 10 Spilyay Tymoo, Warm Springs, Oregon February 1, 2017 Tribes to co-host 23rd Annual Eagle Watch The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and Cove Palisades State Park will host the Twenty-Third Annual Eagle Watch this month. The event, held at Round Butte Overlook Park, is set for February 25-26. The tribal dancers and drummers are a main attraction on the Sunday of Eagle Watch. On hand for the event will be live birds of prey, plus sighting opportunities of the birds in the wild. There are kids activities, a silent auction, and much more. The tribal traditional danc- ers and drummers are a popular part of the event. The tribes, the park and PGE have hosted Eagle Watch every February since 1993. This year the Eagle Watch partners are hosting the Third Annual Eagle Watch Art Con- test. The contest is for stu- dents in grades 4 through 12. Students can enter all art- work, including traditional types of work such as weav- ing and beading. Winners will be an- nounced at the Eagle Watch event at the Round Butte Overlook Park. Artwork can be dropped off at your school office or at the Cove Palisades State Park. The deadline is Friday, February 17, at 3 p.m. Councilman to speak on Malheur occupation Burns Paiute Tribal Coun- cilman Jarvis Kennedy will speak at Willamette Univer- sity on February 16 about the Malheur armed occupation that happened last year. This event is open to the public. The discussion is part of the Willamette University Indian Country Conversa- tions series. Councilman Kennedy will share his perspective on the occupation of the wildlife refuge and the resulting im- pact on the Burns Paiute tribe. He has ser ved as a strong voice against the oc- cupation from its beginning.
