r Spilyay Tymoo WSFPI receivership property auction The property auction is a way to satisfy at least some o f the outstanding WSFPI debts, in cluding debt to the tribes. The receivership began ear lier this year in the spring, after WSFPI became insolvent and unable to reopen following the winter closure. The tribes have owned the mill since the 1960s, and the en terprise was profitable and a major local employer for many years. But various factors-—the re cent timber market in general, and a required reduction in the allowable cut o f tribal member, for instance—-rendered the op eration no longer viable. The auction will be conducted by the James G. Murphy Co., commercial and in dustrial auctioneers. Tribal members will receive a 10 percent discount on items that they win at the auction. Ms, S tacona h as a b ack ground in accounting and fi nance, and worked previously for the Confederated Tribes. She served as executive di rector o f the gaming enterprise, and in the tribal organization she worked in Finance control, and as the internal auditor. The two-day auction will begin at 9 a.m. on both days. T here will be an opportunity to preview the auction properties on Tuesday, N ovem ber 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are hundreds o f items o f all kinds to be auctioned. These include heavy equipment such as log loaders, timber saws, chippers, tools, buildings— all the equipment associated with the operation o f a lumber mill. During a visit to Warm Springs in July, she happened to m eet with a Tribal Council member who en couraged her to apply for the Sec retary-Treasurer position.
