Tribal update from the Council chairman

share with you my first Tribal
Chairman monthly update.
The purpose o f these up­
dates is to keep tribal mem­
bers better informed o f the
w ork o f the Twenty-Sixth
Tribal Council.

Since the beginning o f the
Twenty-Sixth Tribal Council,
we have stayed on top o f our
minutes, with our staff dedi­
cated to this effort.
We have approved m in­
utes since the start o f our
term in May 2013 through
June 2014. These minutes are
im portant records o f discus­
sions and decisions made by
the Tribal Council, and the
minutes are available to tribal
members to view at the Tribal
Council office.

In the past few m onths,
there has been a lot o f atten­
tion on our financial well-be­
ing from outside and ill-in­
formed media sources.
As a resu lt o f th is bad
press, our staff has had to
focus significant time and en­
ergy to address concerns o f
federal agencies and o ther
granting institutions;
As I shared in my recent
letter, our Nation undergoes
an annual organization-wide
audit as well as an annual au­
dit on federal funds received.
These audits have continu­
ally found that our financial
processes are strong and we
are in compliance with grant­
ing requirements.
While this has been time-
consuming, it has also p ro ­
vided an opportunity for the

strong internal fiscal policies.
