A couple o f years ago the company, which oper ates u n d er th e C entral Oregon Intergovernmen tal Council, provided local bus service, and trips be tween Madras and Warm Springs. Warm Springs Transit then took over responsibility for the public transit system, and added additional stops and an adjusted schedule. The Cascades East Tran sit bus retu rn ed to W arm Springs earlier this m onth, and is working on a revised schedule. D etails are forthcom ing about routes and times for the new bus service. The Tribal Council was set to h o st a w ork session on Tuesday o f this week, Jan. 20, with the 509-J Board (the meeting was after the print dead line for this publication). A topic on the agenda was the next “m em orandum o f agreement for education ser vices” between the tribes and the school district. T h e c u rren t agreem ent runs for another two years, but importnat matters require long-term planning, said Rick Molitor, school district super intendent. Board positions coming up for election Jefferson County will con duct the special distritts elec tion in May. The election will decide tw o p o sitio n s on the Je ffe rso n C ounty School District 509-J Board o f D i rectors; plus positions on the Je fferso n C ounty Library D istrict board, the Madras Aquatic Center board, Edu c a tio n S ervices D is tric t ---------- board, and other special dis trict boards in the county. A person can file to run for one o f the positions up until March 19. The first day to file to run is February 7. Potential candidates must file a candidacy form w ith the Jefferson County. With the. memorandum o f agreement coming up for re newal in two years, the time is right for consideration o f how best to achieve this goal, Molitor said. The m eeting on Tuesday o f this week was scheduled at Kah-Nee-Ta. O ther sub jects on the agenda were: B u sin g at th e W arm Springs Eagle Academy; Im pact Aid review, compliance and uses. Title VII review, compli a n c e ,a n d uses. J o h n so n O ’Malley review and uses. In other news from the school board meeting last week: - Thé school, district is now in Compliance with the Impact Aid requirenjents, and is expecting soon to receive the full amount as budgeted. There had been some delay■ in this, as the compliance was being reviewed. - The December Impact Aid hearing was the most suc cessful in terms o f receiving input from parents and teach ers o f the Warm Springs com munity, Molitor 'said. - The school board ac cepted a donation o f football gear, valued at $10,000, for Madras High School. The do n atio n com es fro m Je su it High School. - The board accepted a $10,000 from Central O r egon Seeds Inc., to be used for the new track and field at Madras High School.
