Native Aspirations starting next week
Native Aspirations begins
on Monday, June 30, with
training and orientation. The
six-week program will give
young people a work experi-
ence and education.
This is a grant-funded pro-
gram for youth 14 and up,
said Caroline Cruz, tribal
health liaison, who organized
the program. There is fund-
ing for ten college students
as well, she said.
The youth who are partici-
pating completed core classes
earlier with Melinda Poitra,
tribal employment liaison.
Now the youth will work
at various departments of
the tribal organization, and
take required education
classes two days a week.
Native Aspirations is a coa-
lition group promoting
healthy activities for young
tribal members. The goal of
Native Aspirations is to give
the students an idea of job
skills needed in the workplace,
and a sense of the employ-
ment opportunities available
with the tribes.

Boxing will host Pi-Ume-Sha
2014 Boxing at 3 p.m. this
Saturday, June 28.
This will be the first Pro-
Am boxing show at the Warm

Headlining the card will be
long time Northwest stalwart
Osvaldo “Waldo” Rojas, of
Portland, taking on Ryan
Phillips of Toppenish.
This will be a six round wel-

Rojas has been a pro since
2005, and has built a reputa-
tion in the Pacific Northwest
as a tenacious, well-skilled
fighter with a big heart.
“Phillips is a tough,
rangy fighter with experi-
ence in both boxing and
MMA,” according to the
preview on the website:
cyberboxingzone.com.
Heavyweights
In the co-main event, un-
defeated heavyweight Juan
Esquivel is expected to see
action, although an opponent
has not been locked down
yet. Esquivel has scored all
three of his professional wins
by knockout.
Fifteen amateur bouts fea-
turing fighters from all over
the Northwest, including the
local Warm Springs Nation
boxers, will round out the
undercard.
Doors open for boxing at
2 p.m., with the first bout set
to start at 3. Tickets are

• Presentation of game
changing technologies:
Ground stations, collision
avoidance, and new airframes.
There will also be demon-

collision avoidance between
UAS and traditional aircraft.
One of the test flights will
involve a mock search and
rescue on Mt. Jefferson.
The job fair is in the af-
ternoon of the second day of
the conference.
AUVSI has a membership
of more than 7,500
individuals representing more
than 2,700 organizations
from over 60 countries.
The tribes and AUVSI are
expecting a good turnout for
the October forum, as un-
manned aerial vehicle devel-
opment is a fast growing in-
dustry, headed for major
growth in coming years.
resort could be a major
beneficiary of the UAV test-
site program as it develops,
Anspach said. The FAA is
very supportive of the test-
sites, Anspach said.
There is pressure on the
FAA to establish standards of
operation for UAVs, as other
countries have overtaken the
U.S. in UAV technology.
