The six-week program will give young people a work experi- ence and education. This is a grant-funded pro- gram for youth 14 and up, said Caroline Cruz, tribal health liaison, who organized the program. There is fund- ing for ten college students as well, she said. The youth who are partici- pating completed core classes earlier with Melinda Poitra, tribal employment liaison. Now the youth will work at various departments of the tribal organization, and take required education classes two days a week. Native Aspirations is a coa- lition group promoting healthy activities for young tribal members. The goal of Native Aspirations is to give the students an idea of job skills needed in the workplace, and a sense of the employ- ment opportunities available with the tribes. June 25, 2014 W.S. Nation Boxing hosting Pro-Am show War m Springs Nation Boxing will host Pi-Ume-Sha 2014 Boxing at 3 p.m. this Saturday, June 28. This will be the first Pro- Am boxing show at the Warm Springs Community Center. The hope is that this can be the first of many cards of its kind in the Central Oregon region. Headlining the card will be long time Northwest stalwart Osvaldo “Waldo” Rojas, of Portland, taking on Ryan Phillips of Toppenish. This will be a six round wel- terweight match-up. Rojas has been a pro since 2005, and has built a reputa- tion in the Pacific Northwest as a tenacious, well-skilled fighter with a big heart. “Phillips is a tough, rangy fighter with experi- ence in both boxing and MMA,” according to the preview on the website: cyberboxingzone.com. Heavyweights In the co-main event, un- defeated heavyweight Juan Esquivel is expected to see action, although an opponent has not been locked down yet. Esquivel has scored all three of his professional wins by knockout. Fifteen amateur bouts fea- turing fighters from all over the Northwest, including the local Warm Springs Nation boxers, will round out the undercard. Doors open for boxing at 2 p.m., with the first bout set to start at 3. Tickets are priced at $10 for general ad- mission and $25 for ringside. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
