The dispute is linked to a dwindling casino per capita payment, according to reports. The G rand Ronde oper ates S p irit M o u n tain , th e most profitable casino in the state. M em b ersh ip grew from 3,400 to m o re th an 5,000 following the opening o f the facility, according to the Associated Press. Since then, the per cap has declined from about $5,000 to just over $3,000, the AP said. Removing people from the rolls could limit future decreases. “In my entire life, I have always known I was an In dian. I have always known my family’s history, and I am so proud o f that,” said Mia Prickett, who is one o f those being removed. O ne o f Prickett’s ances tors was a leader o f the Cas cade Indians along the Co lumbia River, and was one of the chiefs who signed an 1855 treaty that helped establish the Confederated Tribes o f the G rand Ronde. But the tribe now wants to disenroll Prickett and 79 rela tives, and possibly hundreds o f other tribal members, be cause they no longer satisfy new enrollment requirements. Prickett’s family is fighting the effort. “In my entire life, I have always known I was an In d ian . I have always know n my family’s history, and I am so proud o f that,” Prickett said.
