Why the UO? I love the

drew me here was the en
couragement and warm wel
come from one o f the advi
sors at the UÚ.
In the classroom: I love
all the classes I ’ve taken, es
pecially my environm ental
studies courses, landscape
architecture, Pacific N o rth

and two years o f Sahaptin
language classes.

Settling in: I ’m very fam

(NASU) this year and have
worked on lots o f projects
w ith o ther groups like the
Native Strategy Committee.
I ’m also really p assionate
about the environment, and
I’ve been working with the
T rib al C lim ate C hange
Project to improve environ
mental conditions in our com
munity.
What’s next? After I
graduate, I want to go back
hom e and im plem ent w hat
I ’ve learned. There are a lot
o f issues I w ant to be in-
Center parking lot.

volved in like water issues in
the Klamath basin, forest ser
vice mediation, and natural
resource policy. I want to go
to graduate school at some
point as well.
Being a Duck: The com
munity here is fun and excit
ing and active. The Native
American community on cam
pus is very welcoming, and it
has inspired me to reach out
and encourage other new stu
dents to get involved in pro
grams.
Take it from me: Bring
your ideas with you when you
get here, because this campus
welcomes new points o f view
and encourages you to voice
your opinions and goals.

Hazardous waste collection on Friday
Chemicals are a part o f
almost everyone’s lives.
We use chemicals to clean
and disinfect, nourish our
lawns, get rid o f pests and
work on our cars.
Unfortunately, we often
do not use up all the chemi
cal and it gets stored under
the sink and in our garages.
Over time the containers
deteriorate and start to leak,
or the product just degrades
and doesn’t w ork well any
more.
O ften times these items
’are then put into our land
fill.
The landfill is not the best
place for these chemicals as
there is the potential for con
tam ination to water, soils,
and wildlife.
