Why Knot Rodeo Dave McMechan/Spilyay Kalan Wolfe scored two of the first three goals for the Madras High School girls soccer team this z season. Kalan, a sophomore, lettered in several sports at the high school during her freshman year. Her favorite, she said, is basketball. On the soccer field she can play both offensive and defensive positions. The MHS girls play at home at 4:30 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 3, against Mollala. The Simnasho community hosted the Second Annual Why K not Rodeo. The rodeo Saw action in the barrel facing divisions, and the wild horse race competition, as shown in the photos: There was an endurance horse race, arid roping events, plus the stick horse race and boot race. Mackey Begay sponsored the bull riding with $1,000 added. The professional wild horse face was also $1,000 added. Wild Horse Race at W.S. Yvonne Iverson pictures T he Tough Team Wild H o rse Race will buck in W arm Springs next Satur day, Oct. 12. The event is sanctioned by the P rofes sional Wild H orse Racers Association. In the adult wild horse race, each team member will com pete at all three posi tions, ride, shank and mug. E n try fee is $345 p e r team; added money $1,000. In the senior colt race, 13- 17 year olds, entry fee is $60 per team. In the junior colt race, 12 years and under, entry fee is $30 per team. For colt race information contact Butch David at 541- 325-2253. Yvonne Iverson/Spilyay Madras High School had their Homecoming last weekend. The MHS home games are at Culver this year, as the Madras field is under construction. Hunting update Please come by the N atu ral Resources office to pick up your tags, a state lands 2013 Big Game Regulations Guide, and to sign up for lot tery hunts. Tags will be issued on a firs-com e first-serve basis. You may pick up your tag up to two days before the start o f the hunt. D ue to the 2013 cost con tainment directive, the N atu ral Resources: office will be closed Friday, O cto b er 11 and Friday O ctober 25 for reduced work hours. Tags for hunts starting the following Saturdays may be picked up the Wednesday and T hursday before. I f you are issued a tag, you have the right to hunt and harvest an animal. H arvest-and hunting infor m ation is im portant for the wildlife department in deter m ining wildlife population sizes, herd compositions and hunting pressure. In addition, this informa tion helps us determine where there are, and are not animals, which helps focus our habi tat restoration efforts.
