The tribes last week hosted a ground-breaking at the con struction site, with lawmak ers and USDA, school district and other guests on hand. C onstruction contractor Kirby Nagelhout is mobiliz ing to the site this Wednes day, June 26; and will begin clearing the vegetation and p re p a rin g th e g ro u n d on Thursday and Friday o f this week. Plans call for the 80,000- square-foot school to have 27 classrooms that will serve 720 children. It will also have a gymnasium. “We do a lot o f projects for tribes, and we do a lot o f projects for school districts, but this is a really unique part nership between the two en tities,” said D ave Fishel, a p ro je c t m anager w ith the Wenaha Group, which is over seeing the construction. “T hey’ve w orked really well together, and it’s been fun to be a part o f that.” Fireworks, parade on the Fourth The fireworks dis play on the Fourth o f July, next Thursday, begins at sundow n. The parade is earlier in the day. Residents are rem inded that Warm S prings F ire and Safety is enforcing all regulations related to the sale o f fireworks, and their safe use. The contractors’ policy will be to hire at least 20 percent o f the school construction workforce locally on the res ervation, according to general contractor Kirby Nagelhout. Tribal Council met with the general contractor last week, and approved the general con tractor agreement. The $21.4 million school is scheduled to be ready for the 2014-15 aca demic year. It will replace a k-5 sch o o l b u ilt in th e 1930s—-th e o ld e s t in th e Jefferson County district. ECE public hearing The Early Childhood Education C enter will host a public hearing this month on the Child C a re a n d D e v e lo p m e n t F u n d (C C D F ) Block Grant. Warm Springs Community Calendar .................. Wednesday, June 26 There will be no water aerobics or fitness classes today. There will be a Seatbelt Diversion Class from 3-5 p.m. in the IHS Kitchen/ Conference Room. The Recreation Depart ment is inviting people to stop by the center and add the names of special fathers in your life to its Fathers Day Wall of Fame. You can write their name on a star and it will be on display through July 1 in the social hail.
