The lucrative prize o f a

remains o ff the table for
now, but some gam bling
interests w ould still take
a chance under new leg­
islation that w ould allow
four upstate casinos.

poised to vote as early as
Friday on a measure that
would authorize Las Ve-
gas-style resort casinos in
three upstate areas: the
C atskills-H udson Valley
region, the Southern Tier
near Binghamton and the
Albany-Saratoga Springs
corridor. The N ew York

limits to casinos for seven
years to give the upstate
resorts time to build up
