Let me introduce a par
ticipant o f the Diabetes Pre
vention Program to you!
Can you guess who it is?
She has:
• Success in substantial
weight loss;
• Made extreme healthy
eating habit changes
• A significant other who
is a ‘health freak’;
• Had challenges in chang
ing, her lifestyle and a life o f
bad eating habits:
• Does catering business
now that offers treats includ
ing healthy choices.
T h e answ er is V esta
Johnson, who has been a par
ticipant in the program since
June o f 2012.
W hat does it mean that
she is a participant?
The Diabetes Prevention
Program (DPP) empowers
people (participants) to pre
vent diabetes. To be a part
o f the program the person
Vesta Johnson
must be diagnosed with Pre-
D iabetes, which means the
person is at higher risk o f
getting diabetes. The person’s
blood sugar levels are higher
th an norm al, b u t n o high
enough for a diagnosis o f dia
betes.

In July o f 2012, the Tony
Robbins Conference changed
her life and taught overcom
ing fear and being healthy is
a reachable goal.
Winona shared life stories
and information on being a
participant, and Montell ex
plained her personal, experi

In the program she says
she learned a foundational
education. The cooking class
and, sh arin g o f fo o d s to
m ake h e a lth ie r ch o ices,
helped her reach her goals.
Vesta says the class was
h e lp fu l in lea rn in g m o re
about the reading o f labels
and understanding fat grams.
Practicing being mindful
when eating has also been an
im p o rtan t p art o f learning
for her..
Vesta states that the Dia
betes and the Diabetes Pre
v en tio n P rogram sta ff are ,
here to change people’s lives.
• T hey can m otivate you to
care for yourself.
So, w ere th e h ealth y
changes hard to do? Vesta
said that it took some time.
But now, with eating fruits and
veggies and less fried foods
while drinking lots o f water,
it has become part o f taking
care o f herself.
The Diabetes Prevention
Program is actually designed
to m ake sm all, d o -ab le
changes for each individual
to ; lead an d c o n tin u e a

In closing, Vesta’s message
for the community regarding
p re v e n tio n o f d iab etés:
“W hen you love y o u rself
enough to change eating hab
its and exercise, life becomes
beautiful and the D PP is here
to support you.”
