BBT Architects, Inc. has been working closely with Warm Springs tribal members to integrate cultural elements into the design of the new Warm Springs K-8 school. They have been collecting images, quotes and colors that represent the three tribes of Warm Springs (Payute, Wasco and Warm Springs). Signage will also be bi-lingual to reflect both English and tribal language. New performing arts center and stadium to upgrade MHS campus i The new designs for the Performing Arts Center (PAC) and Stadium at Madras High School are going to give the campus a fresh and more unified feel. By installing new technology such as the LED lighting systems, the district is saving money AND taking advantage of the most effective and environmentally friendly equipment. While located on the MHS campus, the PAC will be used by all of our schools and students of all ages. It will also be a community gathering place for cultural and business events. Our mascot, the White Buffalo, will greet visitors at the entrance to our new building. The mascot was originally going to be placed at the north or south “Y” in Madras, but thanks to the efforts and donations of local community members, the White Buffalo will be a permanent fixture of the new PAC. The student body can look to it as a good luck charm when they attend events. Hopefully, this will create a sense of pride and unity among our athletes, thespians, musicians, fans and audiences. A special thanks to our supporters including: Class of 1962; Brightwood Corporation; and Les Schwab Tires. We are also working with Central Oregon Seed Inc. (COSI) to obtain a large piece of basalt on which to mount the buffalo.
