BBT scholarships available to
high school seniors
MHS athletes share the importance of reading
and literacy with elementary students
Last month, nine MHS varsity boys basketball players went
to Madras Primary to read stories in the classrooms. They also
invited the kids to come watch the home basketball game that
night and gave them a team poster photo.
“It’s really great to have high school
students acting as role-models for elementary
students in an educational setting. It highlights the
importance o f literacy, and makes the younger kids
excited about learning. ”
— Gary Carlton, Principal of Madras Primary
BBT Architects, the firm that is leading the

is now accepting applications for an annual
$1,000 scholarship award.' The scholarship
is available to Central Oregon high school
seniors planning on pursuing a design-related
field at an accredited college or university in
the fall of 2013.
“This is a great way for us to give back
to the local community,” said Amy Clark,
Marketing Manager for BBT Architects. “We
are proud and honored to be part of the local
design projects and we are looking forward to
hearing from some of the graduating seniors
in Jefferson County.”
The deadline for completed applications
is Friday, April 12,2013. Details and
application packets are available at the
MHS counseling and Career center. For more

Construction on the new Warm
Springs K-8 school is set to begin this
summer! The new 80,000 square foot
building will include:
■ three classroom pods with nine
classrooms in each learning space;
■ a fourth pod for athletics and a
cafeteria;
■ a common “street” that connects the
four pods and provides additional
spaces for staff and students;
■ a modern interpretation of traditional
gabled roofs, wood columns and
clerestory windows
■ views of Mt. Jefferson, the Palisade
Cliffs, surrounding bluffs, or the
learning courtyards - all providing
a direct connection with the natural
environment; and
■ rich wood accents and Warm earth
tone colors to complement the natural
