By Yvonne Iverson Spilyay Tymoo Writer Jane Kirkpatrick returned to Warm Springs last Saturday to speak at the library. Friends, past co-workers, and fans gath ered to hear Jane’s story, visit, and enjoy some good food. Library Award Craig G raham o f the W arm S p rin g s L ib rary shared, “My first contact w ith Jane was w hen she called to see if we, would be interested in a nomina tion for an awesome book aw ard. T h a t aw ard re sulted in brand new books for the library.” Pacific N orthw est Book sellers every year receives books from publishing com panies, so book buyers can see books before they buy them . They d o n ’t w ant to ship all these books back to New York, so instead they se lect a rural library to donate the books to. This year they were looking for a rural li brary in Oregon. Jane thought o f the Warm Springs Library and assisted in the nomina tion process. Worked in W.S. K irk p a tric k w o rk e d at Early Childhood E ducation when she began writing. “‘Hom estead’ was my first book, and it came out before my 45th birthday. We had a party at Early Childhood to c e le b ra te ,’( recalls K irk patrick. “In. 2002 I le f t W arm Springs, after my dad passed away. Surprised the young lady would re m em ber this, Jane asked “D o you rem ember what the story was about?” T h e girl re s p o n d ed that it was a story about an eagle that kept flying higher and higher even though others were trying to keep the eagle from fly ing. “Words have power,” she says. ‘W rite your own stories.
