Wild horse racers need to call the PTBRA office at 541-281- 8272 to enter. First 18 teams. The rodeo is sponsored by the Tohet family, the Gilbert family, and Spud Smith and family. Warm Springs will host the Outlaw Rodeo this Saturday, Oct. 8, starting at 1 p.m. at the Warm Springs rodeo grounds. The rodeo will feature a wild horse race, wild colt race (13- 17 year olds), junior wild colt race (12 and under), wild cow race (three-man team), cow riding, and bronc riding (saddle and ranch riding). The Warm Springs Box ing Club will host the Battle on the Rez later this month. The annual event will be on Saturday evening, Oct. 29, at Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert Resort and Casino. The Warm Springs box ers will host other fighters from around the region. There will be 12-15 bouts, said boxing coach Austin Smith. General admission tick ets will be available at the door. The person wearing the best Halloween costume will win a cash prize. Box ing action begins at 6 p.m. Fall run at Kah-Nee-Ta the 10k race will also receive a great prize. All runners will also be en tered into a raffle for exciting door prizes to be held after the awards presentation. Swim passes to the Kah-Nee-Ta Vil lage pool will be available for all registered runners. Entry is $10 with t-shirt and $8 without a t-shirt (pre-regis ter ed); and on the day of the race, $15 with t-shirt and $8 without. Call the Recreation Depart ment for information, 541-553- 3243. Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert Resort and Casino will host the 2011 fall run on Sunday, Oct. 16. There will be a 10k and 5k run, and 1-mile fun run/walk. The course is out and back on black top, beginning and ending at the Kah-Nee-Ta Village front gate. Water stations will be lo cated along all courses. Runners will be able to regis ter and run in their own divi sion according to their age. Top three finishers of each of the categories will be awarded with medals. The overall winners of Yvonne Iverson/Spilyay Participants in the Oct. 1 walk checked the map, as Edmund Francis, Community Wellness coordinator, gave instructions about the route. Almost 70 people took the took the challenge to exercise at least 30 minutes a day for 30 days. Similar events were held in cities across the state, including Portland, Bend, Roseburg and Salem. 6Get Going’ on the path to wellness The Warm Springs Boys & Girls Club, the tribal Commu nity Health program, and IHS Diabetes Prevention program have teamed up with OHSU on a state wide initiative to increase physical activity. The Get Going Oregon pro gram had kick-off events across the state including Warm Springs. You can learn more about the statewide program at getgoingoregon.org. The last day to sign-up is Friday Oct. 7. Heritage Center returns canoe (AP) - The oldest Kalapuya Indian river canoe in the Willamette Valley is now back in the hands of its people. The Willamette Heritage Cen ter recently donated the canoe to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. The canoe now sits in a glass case at the tribe’s government building. Gorge marking 25th anniversary of National Scenic designation The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is celebrat ing its 25th Anniversary this year. An anniversary party is be ing planned in celebration of this milestone. The event is from 10 a.m.-4 f X p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8-9. Tickets are $70. Rosie Suppah plays soccer in the fall and then basketball in the late fall and winter. “I like soccer because it keeps me in shape,” she said. “It helps my coordination, it’s fun, and I like the challenge.” Rosie plays goalie for the Madras White Buffalos var sity girls squad. She plays post or wing on the basketball court. O f the two sports, she likes basketball a litde more than soccer. Rosie is a senior this year. Her mom is Lucy Suppah; and her father is the late Tony Suppah. The girls team plays its next home game on Tuesday, Oct. 18, against Gladstone.
