Biomass: Resource team approves assessment
(Continued from page 1)
The bio-mass plant could be

plant to come on-line.
The p ro ject alm ost fell

Madras Students Asked to Write for State Encyclopedia
Si talents at Madras High School will be working with The Oregon Encyclopedia (OE), to
expand its online historical website at www.oregonencyclopedia.org. 1 his year, OE is reaching
out to high school, community college, and university students and asking them to researchand
write about local topics important to their communities. M adras I ligh Schools students —
under the leadership of teachers, Courtney Lupton,Allen 1 lair and Catherine Sergeant - will
participate in the program along with five other classrooms throughout the state.
Through workshops led by OE staff, students will have “hands-on" experience with
researching and writing as they learn about their own rich history. Students w ill visit local
libraries and the Museum at Waim Springs archives, to support their historical research.
The OE is a partnership between Portland State University (PSU), Oregon Council of the
Tenders of English (OCTE), and Oregon Historical Society (OHS). The partnership between
M adras High School and OE is possible through a grant from the federal Institute of Museum
and Library Services through the Library
Services and Technology Act administered by
the Oregon State Library.
