The class w ill be from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursdays. The first class is Sept. 12, and the agenda include: class registration, introducing deco rating tools, cake recipes, ic ing recipes, cake preparation (baking, leveling, torting), fill ing the layers, and icing the cake. The second class is on Sept. 19 and the agenda is: review, make buttercream icing, make royal icing, practice m aking flowers, practice making leafs, practice making letters. « The third class is on Sept. 24 and the agenda is: review, make decorations, cake preparation, decorate a cake. The fourth class is on Oct. 3 and include: review, make fon dant, color fondant, make fon dant decorations, and cover a cake with fondant. The fifth and final class is on Oct. 10, and the agenda is: review, decorate Hallow een cup cakes, receive cer tificate of class participation. The class will be taught by cake decorator Yara Santos. Their project was to create a landscape using fabric. age group got a different project to work on, but first we were taught the basics of drawing and building or adding definition to make our projects look more realistic. Justine took the time to help and teach us her knowledge of arts and crafts. She taught shading tech niques, vanishing points, and easy ways to make animal figu rines. B y E ly s e B a g le y For the Spilyay A n art camp was held at the community center from August 8-12. For that whole week kids participated in the art camp held in Carol’s room, and taught by Justine Conner. The camp was interesting because they broke up the art into different age groups. Each Each age group was taught a different lesson the older the kid the more to learn. For example high school students learn the basics of shading, tips on how to make the picture look realis tic, creative ways to make their drawing picture perfect, and a little pencil history. T hey w ere also given a sketch book and a pouch full of the basic art supplies needed to practice and learn. The Sixth Annual Festival of Nations is - A Gathering at the River happens at Marine Park in Cascade Locks on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11. Admis sion is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The Festival of Nations is a free arts and cultural celebration and salmon conservation aware ness event. Centered on Native Ameri can traditions, the festival is open to everyone. On the main stage will be tribal performers from the re- gion. There will be a 10K/1 mile Salmon Run, powwow, food, music, dancers, art, interactive exhibits and craft and traditional stick games. The run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. You can sign up at the Kah-Nee-Ta Expan sion Office, at the Recreation Department or the Lorang Art Gallery in Cascade Locks. On site registration begins at 7 a.m. The traditional old style stick games are being coordinated by Reuben Henry. Bring your own material goods and trade items. The F estival o f N ations M ini-Pow w ow begins w ith Grand Entry at 6 p.m. on Sat- urday, Sept. 10. All drummers are welcome. Dance categories male and female: 7-12 year-olds, 13-17, 18-19, and 50 and over. Tiny tots 6 and under. Sponsored by the Lincoln’s Powwow Commit tee. Recreation to host Fall Round Up Yard Sale The Warm Springs Recre ation Department presents the Fall Round Up Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 10. The sale will be on the front lawn of the Community Center.
