Pgge 3 April 6, 2011 Spily^y Tym oo, W^rro Springs, Oregon VOCS hosts Hands Around the Courthouse Deer Ridge inmates to host powwow W arm Springs Victims of Crime Services hosted the First Annual Hands Around the Courthouse Awareness event on Monday, April 4. VOCS is campaigning to raise awareness and prevention of, child abuse and sexual assault, as April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. For more information on awareness activities this month contact Victims of Crime Services at 541-553-2293; or stop by a 1132 Paiute Avenue. Native American inmates at the Deer Ridge Correc tional Facility are planning a powwow at the facility. The inmates are planning the powwow for Friday, Sept. 23. This will be the first pow wow at Deer Ridge. “We’re trying to get the Warm Springs community involved, to have something positive in our lives,” said Daniel Lawrence. The inmates invite drum m ers, dancers, elders and anyone else who wishes to attend the event. There will be a meal served at the pow wow. “We’re going to have salm on, and deer and elk meat,” said Lawrence. Anyone wishing more in formation on how to attend the Deer Ridge powwow, call the facility at 541-325-5999. Ventures seeks board members, changing name The Tribal Council is seek ing interested individuals for appointment to Ventures board of directors. Ventures is a tribal enterprise with a mission to create new and expanding enterprises, to in crease tribal revenue, increase the number of livable wage jobs, and improve tribal infrastruc ture. In the past small business development was also placed under its umbrella. T he ad o p ted E co n o m ic Stewardship plan calls on Ven tures to narrow its mission to enterprise development, and in doing so will formally chang ing their name to the Enter prise Development Corpora tion (EDC). The small business focus that has been a part of the organi zation will be developed by the Private Business Center under the leadership o f the Warm Springs C om m unity A ction Team. The goal of the Stewardship plan is to give a more concen trated effort over time to the developm ent o f tribal enter prises and to build a robust pri vate business sector in the com munity.
