T h e Warm Springs community
last week contributed clothing,
food and water, and household
items to the victims of the White
Swan fire on the Yakama Res­
ervation.
Last Friday, a team of vol­
unteers loaded the supplies at
the Family Resource Center.
The contributions included di­
verse items ranging from bottled
water and canned goods, to dia­
pers and winter clothing.
Tw enty hom es w ere d e­
stroyed in the fire, which was
fueled by high winds. Over 100
people were displaced from
their homes in the catastrophe.
The fire apparently started in
one house in the early Saturday
afternoon, Feb. 12, then spread
in the town of White Swan, bol­
stered by 40 mph winds.
The blaze raged for most of
the day.
No residents were hurt but
two firefighters were treated for
minor injuries.
Some residents voluntarily
evacuated and took shelter at the
long house and high school.
