The evening begins with the Washut, beginning at 4:30. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Come early and take part in the mini health fair that will be going on in the dining area. This is an evening filled with culture, health, education, blood pressure/blood sugar screening and a small gift for children and our respected elders. At 6 p.m. Queen Lorene and the Skillet Lickers will perform, while guests dine on salmon, green salad, rolls, corn, roasted red potatoes and ice cream pre p ared by C h e f M ichael Spaulding and the senior cooks. Everyone is welcome to join, bring your family and friends. This event is put on by the Warm Springs Diabetes P ro gram in collaboration with the Diabetes Prevention Program, the tribal Senior Center, the Early Childhood Center and Natural Resources. (AP) — The Oregon Depart ment o f Fish and Wildlife says the Lower Deschutes River will o p en fo r a sp rin g ch inook salmon season from April 1 through July 31. That's a big change from last year when the season was closed on the central Oregon river due to a wild chinook run o f just 430 fish. This year, however, more than 2,000 of the fish are expected, and biologists predict between 7,500 and 8,500 hatch ery fish will be available for har vest. Only hatchery fish can be kept by anglers, and the daily bag limit will be two fish. The Lower Deschutes will be open for spring chinook fishing from Sherars Falls, just north of M aupin, dow nstream to the mouth of the river. ------- Go to www.wsnews.org for the latest Warm Springs news & events.
