Victims o f Crime Services (VOCS) cannot help you pay your bill, but we can give your referrals that may help. The Warm Springs Mu seum has scaled back its op erating hours for the winter. It is now open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The museum gift shop is on the same sched ule. Huckleberry gift baskets Shop em ployees have geared up for the holiday sea son by creating special gift baskets. F eatured prom i- nendy in these arrangements are huckleberry products — foods, cosmetics and other gift items. Baskets o f different sizes and prices are available. People also can order custom baskets w ith tribe-m ade beadwork, baskets, and arts and crafts items sold in the gift shop. Shop employees ask that customers allow for adequate time to assemble the custom baskets— at least a half day. You can reach the mu seum at 553-3331. Museum memberships Also available are museum memberships. Some cost as litde as $25 a year. The LIEAP program is open to all tribal community members living in the 97761 zip code re gardless o f tribal enrollment. In the event that you have electrical power, but are having furnace problems and there is the a senior in your home, the tribal Social Services depart ment has a limited number o f electric blankets, electric bed pads, and electric heaters for the senior’s use. Be prepared by bringing your latest power bill and financial information with you when you go to the Social Services build ing to apply for the Energy As sistance Program. Seniors The tribal Seniors Program has budgeted a one-time annual $240 maximum payment per tribal member senior for 2009 to help with power bills. The Seniors Program is lo cated on High Lookee Street, and its telephone number is 553- 3313. W ilson Wewa, Lucille Schuster or Elton Greeley can assist you. Unlike the Social Services department that receives federal dollars for its LIEAP program, the Seniors Program (because it is funded with tribal dollars) provides its energy assistance to seniors ages 60 years or older who are enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes. State human services The Oregon Department of Human Services may be able to help with income assistance, and your power bill, if you are low- income, have children, and meet its other qualifications. DHS has a part-time satellite office at the tribal Family Resource Center, 1144 Warm Springs St., tele phone number 553-1626. It also has a full-time office in Madras at 678 N E Highway 97, Suite D, Madras, telephone number is 541-475.6131. The Bureau o f Indian Af fairs’ Social Services Program does not have funding to help tribal community members pay their power bills. N eighborlm pact is a non government, non-profit organi zatio n h ead q u artered in Redmond that can help tribal community members who live in Jefferson County with their energy bills after first applying to the Warm Springs for Low Income Energy Assistance Pro gram at the Social Services de partment. Neighborlmpact has a M adras office at 645 SW Marshall St., Madras, and its walk-in hours are 1-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is recommended to call 475-7017 for an appointment. Neighborlmpact can also as sist consumers access the O r egon Heat Program if the cus tomer has a good payment his tory with Pacific Power. The Oregon Energy Assistance Pro gram is designed to prevent shut-offs that can have a life-al tering effect on the family. T he Wasco C ounty tribal residents who heat their homes w ith electricity from Wasco Electric Cooperative or Pacific Power may be eligible for help with their heating costs. The WECare program helps clients once every 12 m onths w ith Wasco Electric Cooperative that have a “shut-off” notice, and there are a couple of programs, Oregon Energy Assistance, and Oregon HEAT, that can help with Pacific Power clients.
