T here w ere 12 runners placed w ith two different team s for 2009. I have a bunch o f happy camp ers! Congratulations to Monica Leonard, Ina Schuster, Leslie Davis, Crystal Buck, G lendon Sm ith and Lex A nguiano for making it on a team from P ort land. Also, congratulations to A n gela S an d ers, J u d y A d am s, Yvette Leecy, D o n Courtney, Andy Leonard, and Jay T hom p son fo r m aking on a second team, also from Pordand. Talk about happy! T h a t’s w hat we h av e a ro u n d here....really happy runners! Because we did n ot get se lected this year we were n o t able to do fund-raisers this year. Family headstones T h e fam ilies o f C atharine Owens, Tina and Bernie Owens, A lfred H enry G leason Jr. o f Wapato wish to extend a sincere th a n k -y o u to all h o w have helped our families these past two years in dealing with the loss o f family members. A memorial date has been set for O ct. 10, 2009 for R obert Joseph Castillo, son to Catharine O wens and grandson to Tina and Bernie Owens and Alfred H enry Gleason Jr. The m em o rial is set for Oct. 10 at the 1910 Shaker Church in White Swan. A meal and giveaway will follow the services. The headstone for R obert Castillo will be set be fore the , memorial service. H eadstone will be set for a total o f 15 family members in the m onth o f September, 2009. The memorial service will be on Oct. 10 will also include all fam ily members who are receiving headstones. The headstones will be set in the Wapato City Cem etery, Shaker Church Cemetery and the Puyallup Tribal Cem etery in Tacoma. All headstones m ust be set by Septem ber 30, 2009. T here are a n um ber o f fam ily m e m b e rs w h o h av e passed on in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, and recently who have n ot received a headstone. The fami lies will be purchasing a head stone for Alexander Elwell who was raised by the late Marjorie G leason and Tina and Bernie Owens. Alexander Elwell head stone will be set by Sept. 30 in the Satus Point Cemetery after it is purchased. The headstones to be set in the Puyallup Tribal Cemetery in Tacoma will be for Alfred Henry Gleason Sr. and James Gleason, father and grandfather to Tina Owens and Alfred Gleason Jr. A h ead sto n e w ill be set fo r Gerald Gleason, infant child o f the late Robert James Gleason Sr. and Valena Sargent o f Warm S prings. T h e h e a d sto n e fo r Gerald Gleason will be set in the Tacoma Cemetery. The headstone to be set in the 1910 Shaker Church Cem e te ry w ill b e fo r R o b e rt J. Castillo. The headstones to be set in the Wapato Reservation Cem etery on W est W apato Road, W apato, will be for M abel J. Y ellow olf, C h ris tin e M. Celestine, Francis H. Celestine, Christine C. Celestine, D avid C elestine, T o m J. C elestine, Ruby S. Celestine, Christopher Celestine, RaeDean Celestine, and Baby Boy Celestine. There are more mem bers o f the family who do n o t have a headstone at this time and in the future they will receive a head stone. However, at this time the families will be working on the 14 headstones. T he families are requesting all family members and friends to please start putting away m e morial items for the giveaway and gathering food for this huge undertaking. I am sorry I broke tribal law on 4-18-09 by driving under the influence o f alcohol and reck lessly endangering times three. I am currently doing 180 days for my inexcusable actions. David LeClaire Jr. has been no oral medication for diabetes, the medication may not work as well in controlling blood sugar. T h is is n o t th e p a tie n t’s fault, b u t is a norm al progres sion o f diabetes as it changes over time in people w ith type 2 diabetes. Insulin is actually used more am ong people with type 2 dia betes because type 2 diabetes cases outnum ber type 1 diabe tes cases (approximately 90 per cent to 95 percent o f all diabe tes cases are type 2). This means that out o f ev ery 100 people w ith diabetes, five to 10 people have type 1 diabetes and 90-95 people have type 2 diabetes. Fact: Insulin lowers blood sugar and keeps it in the nor mal blood sugar level in the body. Only people with type 1 dia betes m ust inject insulin to stay alive. T his is because their pan creas cannot m ake any insulin at all. People with type 2 diabetes still make insulin and can often control their blood sugar with diet and exercise, or with diet, exercise and pills. H ow ever, sometimes people w ith type 2 diabetes do need to take insulin to control their blood sugar lev els. I f you have any questions, please call m e at 553-2478. Myth: O n ly p e o p le w ith type 1 diabetes have to take insulin. Fact: People with type 2 dia betes also may need to take in sulin.
