to the community.
The staff of 12 health work
ers focus on nutrition and fit
ness, diabetes prevention, edu
cation, m aternal and child
health, elder care, and other ar
eas of community wellness.
Home visits are an important
part o f the Community Health
service.
“We have outreach workers
who try to help get the people
involved,” said R oberta
Queahpama, department direc
tor. “And we visit the people
who might not be able to get to
the clinic.”
The outreach workers, for
instance, make sure that patients
are following their treatments at
home.
“And we have a very open
door policy,” said Queahpama.
“We try to assist as many people
as we can.”
The staff includes commu
nity health nurses, community

year.
Head Start is offering your
three to four-year-olds a pre
school experience.
Head Start provides children
with activities to grow mentally,
socially, emotionally and physi
cally, as well as giving them kin
dergarten readiness.

Aquatic center hosting July 4 event
The Madras Aquatic Center
will host a July 4 celebration on
Saturday, starting 5:30 until the
completion of the fireworks.
The event will feature four
hours o f swimming, games and
recreation, a barbecue, live mu
sic and fun for people o f all
ages.
The evening will be topped
o ff with the fireworks display
from an excellent vantage point.

bracelets in advance o f the
event. Bracelets can be pur
chased at the aquatic center, at

dras. Admission includes swim
ming, music, barbecue dinner
