Spilygy Tymoo, Wgrm Springs, Oregon Page 5 June 18/2009 Volunteers bring Beautification Project to Oitz Loop A fter two m onths o f plan ning and coordinating, the O itz Loop beautification project was completed successfully on Sat urday, May 30. Volunteers, residents and sur rounding neighbors came out for a day in the sun to embark, as one, on the journey. Purpose fu ln e ss, p a s s io n a n d p rid e am ongst the diverse group o f n ear 40 v o lunteers k ep t the group w orking in 90-degree- plus temperatures. C utting, pulling, m ow ing, raking and gathering the debris in the area was quite a job on such a beautiful spring day. T h e w o rk w as n o t o n ly needed, b ut very much appreci ated. Project coordinator Jefferson G reene received many inquiries about the work completed on May 30. G reene com m ented, “This certainly could n ot have been done w ithout the comm itment o f local community members, businesses and organizations that stepped forward to help get the job done.” Last year in O ctober, Beauti fication 1 took place in the West Hills neighborhood in W arm Springs, bringing in nearly 100 volunteers for two days. They worked on the littered, unsafe and un-m aintained sidewalks ju s t days b e fo re H allow een evening. This time, it only took one day. K ah-N ee-T a H igh D e se rt R e s o rt an d C asin o , W arm Springs V entures, the W arm Springs H ousing Authority, and First N ation Media were among the first to be on bo ard for Beautification 2. K ah-Nee-Ta provided fund ing and a barbeque grill, Ven tures and H ousing provided the l a r g e s t p o r t i o n s o f f u n d in g , and F irst N a tio n M edia and KWSO Radio provided the pro motional campaign and strategy. Volunteer knocks down weeds at Oitz Loop area als, W arm Springs Utilities, the M u seu m at W arm Springs, O regon Lottery, SOLV, and the Central O regon Recy cling P roject were am ong the organizations and groups that also came forth w ith their gen ero sity and c o m p assio n fo r positive com m unity involve ment. “G enerous businesses and organizations that come forward • for something like the Beautifi cation P ro ject are m odels o f greatness,” said Greene. “They care for a beautiful place like Jefferson County, and those are the businesses that will continue to inspire community members in even th e toughest o f eco nomic times because they care.” T he B eautification P roject tors are now looking into a pos sible project that could benefit other areas in Jefferson County as well. A fter experiencing yet a n o th e r c o m p le te d su ccess story, the effo rts b eh in d the W arm Springs B eautification Projects may just be beginning. I w ork at Childrens P rotective Services (CPS) here in W arm Springs as a CPS Assistant. I started in May 2005 as a protective care provider in the CPS Center, and eventually transitioned to the administration side as th e CPS r e c e p tio n is t in March 2006. I worked as the reception ist until approximately Sep tem ber 2006, at which time I decided to take time o ff for my new baby and family. I was recently offered employ m ent as the assistant in April 2008. My job consists o f work ing closely with the children in CPS custody. I assist with transports to doctor appoint m ents, treatm ent facihties, supervise visits, complete cE- ent clothing/grocery shop ping, and I do in-hom e ser vices with famiEes that are on m onitor status. This means I provide inform ation to the p arents in th eir hom e on parenting. T he services I provide to our famiEes are to e n su re p a re n ts have th e skiUs, and can prove they are meeting the children’s basic needs. I also work closely with the CPS speciaEsts in provid ing administration assistance with all the paperwork, such as completing cEent monthly reports, cEent service plans, in home service reports, weekly reports, and other filings. My job is a continuing growing field, and is an op portunity for m e to get to know my com m unity, the people on a professional and personal note., to ensure the famiEes are getting services from CPS, and for the par e n ts to w o rk to w ard s o r) maintaining custody o f their children.
