Spilyay Tymoo, Warm Springs, Oregon December 18, 2 0 0 8 Page 7 Boxers compete at Hillsboro tourney The Warm Springs Boxing Club traveled to Hillsboro for a series o f bouts that resulted in three very close fights for the local boxers. The main event of the tour nament, held at the J.B. Thomas Middle School gymnasium in Hillsboro, was between Warm Springs boxer Leander Smith, and Gabriel Pineida. “T h at was a very good m atch,” said C oach A ustin Smith. “It was Leander’s first four-rounder.” The match between the 132- pound fighters was very close, but the win went to Pineida, who was a 2008 Gold Gloves boxer. Jasper Smith lost his rematch to Virgil Green of Vancouver. “This was very close, and many people thought the fight went to Jasper,” said Coach Smith. This fight was in the 147-150 pound class. Trevor Tewee boxed in the 152-pound category. He fought Kevin Pritchard of West Port land, and this was also a very close bout, said Smith. “Trevor had a good come-back after Pi- Ume-Sha,” he said. The match almost could have gone either way, but the win went to Pritchard. “All three o f our boxers did very good. They each came very close to winning,” said Coach Smith. Also at the Hillsboro tourna ment, Oits Johnson was going to box in the 200-plus weight class, but the opponent didn’t show. Community Wellness con tinues to host group fitness classes through the month of December. Each day at 12:10 p.m. Wellness Coordinator Carolyn Harvey teaches a class in the aerobics room at the commu nity center for anyone who wishes to attend. M onday and T hursday classes feature cardio, while body flex strength training classes are held on Tuesday Club is planning a trip this week end to Yakima to participate in the Washington Silver Gloves competition. The team may also go to Zilla, Wash., for fights in the near future, said Smith. Anyone who wants to partici pate in the club boxing training and activities is invited to the boxing room at the Community Center. The boxers train after school on week days.
