Jodi Orr, Family Partnership c o o rd in a to r, W arm S prings H ead Start/Early H ead Start. This past week I visited some friends on the W arm Springs Reservation. T h ere was a Pow w ow fo r children in the Community Cen ter gym that I attended. I thought it was such a w on derful and fun evening for the kids. To see such tiny dancers in regaHa was really precious. T he parents w ho to o k the time to prepare their children and attend this event, you have my admiration. I d o n ’t know the nam e o f the drum that perform ed, but they were one o f the best I have heard at the many powwows I have attended. The MC for the event had such a great sense o f hum or and did a great job! I h av e g re a t re s p e c t for people in a community w ho care enough to plan and sacri fice their time and volunteer for such a gathering. I was thinking about all the famihes w ho were n o t able to atten d . T h ey m issed a g o o d time. I hope next year it will be even m ore crowded with young dancers. So to all w ho participated, than k you! I t was one o f the many highUghts o f my vacation. R espectfully, Gail Seich, N ew York. Two poems H o n o r them that are gone. They were heroes young and old. Live our lives in trust, For they w ould Eke so much. R em em b er th e m as th ey were, the smiles and times we had. D ry the tears th a t ru n to share someday the good we had. Remem ber the brightness o f their smile, not the pain o f their despair. Wipe your tears before they fall upon the earth that’s moist. H onor them that are gone, heroes let them be. For w ithout them Efe would not be all that it might be. I often think o f that day, and how it m eant so much. Carried as a burden now for so long. To understand it now means so m uch to me. Beheve in myself, as I once did. I often think o f that day, an open grave it was. N ow to bury but n o t forget, part o f me it has become. Abandoned dogs O n N ovem ber 4, three pups w ere dum ped o ff at m y resi dence. The dogs were McNab puppies, good bred pups. I ’m asking p eo p le n o t to dum p dogs in the Seekseequa area, o r at my residence. This is the fourth time we’ve had to contact the pubEc health departm ent to retrieve animals. It’s a very sad situation for the animals. We also found a set o f pup p ies d u m p e d in th e u p p e r Seekseequa area two years ago. I f dogs, or puppies, are not w anted, please contact Nancy Collins at th e P ublic H ealth D epartm ent at 553-1196. These alternatives are free services.
