The exhibit is on display in the Changing Exhibits Gallery a t th e M u seu m o f W arm Springs. K alam a w o n th e Ju d g e s C hoice Award for her w ork, “My H eart and Soul,” a beaded collage with feathers on a baby board. K alam a, w h o w o rk s at KWSO, said the inspiration for the horse-and-man design cam e from her father Bobby Kalama. “H e showed me this bond,” she said. “After the men and the horses I felt the need to bring Celilo alive in my work,” she said. “I thought o f the birth o f my new grandson Carver Kennedy, that gave me the lone gaffer along the side o f the river and th e g r a n d fa th e r s w a tc h in g him.” About her beading, Kalama said, “As I tacked down every two beads, my thoughts held my g re a t g ra n d m o th e r Ju lia Whitewolf, and great grandfa ther Simon Stevens w ho had been blind. “Simon inspired me to use beads in the design where he may have been able to feel the design rather than see it. “All my family from Richard Halfmoon to Gib Kalama held my imagination.” Kalama also has beaded re galia items (example at right), featuring hummingbird designs, on display at the exhibit. The Fifteenth Annual Tribal Member A rt Exhibit at the Mu seum o f W arm Springs runs through January 5, 2009. Personal loan applications on hold till Nov. 3 Due to a current backlog o f loan requests, the Tribal Credit Enterprise will not be accepting new personal loan requests through Oct. 31. This will allow the Credit staff to take action on current applications, said Lori Fuentes, Credit manager. Credit will resume accepting personal loan requests on N o vember 3.
