Chee wins Miss Rodeo crown

C ory Rose Chee was
crow ned Miss R odeo
AIRCA 2008.
AIRCA, the American In­
dian Rodeo Cowboys Asso­
ciation, is the oldest orga­
nized Indian rodeo associa­
tion, “where winners rope,
ride, race and legends are
made.” After receiving this
title she is now eligible to
compete for the National All
Indian Rodeo title.
Chee is from Purdy Rock,
New Mexico and is affiliated
with Warm Springs Reserva­
tion o f Oregon, Yakama Na­
tion of Washington, and Na­
vajo Indians o f the Black
Streak Wood people clan.
She is 17-years-old, and
daughter of Lena Mitts-Chee
and H erm a n Chee. H er
b ro th e r Jake and sister
Kasarah complete her imme­
diate family. She is a junior,
at Wingate High School in
New Mexico.

has competed in the New
Mexico state championship.

Youth tackle football league taking sign-ups
Jefferson County youth foot­
ball is a tackle football league
comprised o f two age groups of
players from Jefferson County.
Fourth- and fifth-graders are

Her family has six horses,
which she rides, their names
are: G uch, C opper, H enry
Hawk, Hell Raiser, Hell Boy,
and Rosie Red.
Her immediate plans are to
assist the oldest organized In­
dian rodeo association by pro­
moting the sport o f Indian ro­
deo. She will do this by encour­
aging others to get involved in
the sport, and by supporting
all the AIRCA contestants, ro­
deo fans and other integral
components o f the rodeo in­
dustry.

come back and mingle with a
new generation o f rodeo en­
thusiasts.

Eleventh annual run/walk honors Beamer memory
The Eleventh Annual Todd
Beamer Independence Day Run
will be held this year in Madras
on Friday, July 4 at Sahalee Park.
The event options are a 10k run,
2-mile fun run/walk, and a 10k
walk.
T he 10k walkers need to
meet at the park for a 7 a.m. start
time. 10k runners will meet at
the park by 7:15 a.m. and will
catch a bus to the starting point
