Shotgun start time is 2:30 p.m. Fee is $35 per person for a team o f four. The lunches are free to any child 18 or younger. T he p ro gram is sponsored by USDA Rural T ransportation, through the Je ffe rso n C ounty S chool D istrict 509-J, said Patti Jobe, w ho is managing the program. Lunches will include item s like beef and bean burritos, ham and cheese sandwiches, cheese burgers, cantaloupe, apple slices, m ilk a n d m any o th e r m en u items. Pay-to-play fees will increase for Madras High School athletes next year after a decision by the school board. The fees have increased from $50 to $65 per sport. The indi vidual and family limit has in creased from $300 to $350. S tudents w ho receive free and reduced lunches will still be granted waivers due to financial need. While it was suggested that those students be charged a re duced sports fee, coaches said current athletes w ould be u n able to p a rtic ip a te in th e ir sports. According to interim super intendent Kay Baker, 49 percent o f student athletes receive fee waivers. This year $14,750 was col lected in pay-to-play fees, while $14,270 was collected during the 2006-07 academic year. T h e 509-J d istric t sch o o l board also approved next year’s coaching assignments. Two assistant coaches were cut at Madras High School, and seven assistant coaching posi tio n s w ere e lim in a te d at J e f fe rs o n C o u n ty M iddle School.
