Sherman is a board school for N ative A m ericans located in Riverside, Calif. L ed by se n io rs C o leicia Moses, Natasha Dewakuku and Lisa Antone, this season marked a fulfilling end to careers that have seen the Lady Braves m ove from w orst to first in an increas ingly difficult league. The consistent play and lead ership o f th ese th re e you n g w om en have helped to establish a winning tradition at our school that will hopefully carry on with the 14 other players w ho will be left to continue on. Coleicia was selected as the M ost V aluable Player o f the team for her offensive and de fensive contributions. As one o f our top pitchers and our start ing shortstop, she was an essen tial com ponent o f our strong defensive unit. H er outstanding play in the field protected many a lead for us in games this season. O ffen sively, she was the catalyst that allowed us a chance for victory in each and every game. Coach Michelle Laramie Selena Boise/Spilyay Celeicia Moses batted .516 for the season. She ended the season with a .516 batting average overall (and .559 in league), which was n o t only the top on our team, but ranked within the top 20 aver ages in the entire Inland Empire. She also led th e team in hom eruns (3), doubles (7) and hits (33). She tied for the lead in runs scored (23) and was sec ond in triples (2) and runs bat ted in (2 8). W ith a slugging percentage o f .828 and an on-base percent age o f .557, Coleicia dominated her opponents. She was elected to the First Team All-Arrowhead League by a unanimous decision among the coaches. C o leicia M o ses, a W arm Springs tribal member, made a lasting impression on the soft ball program at Sherman Indian High School over her three-year career. A confident leader, she was selected by her teammates to be captain for a second con secutive year. She has a quiet intensity that allows her to lead m ore by ac tio n s th a n by w ords. C oach Michelle Laramie says, “Coleicia is the m ost naturally gifted soft- ball player I have had com e through the Sherman program in my 15 seasons as head coach. She was an integral part o f the success we have achieved over the last three years. I am sorry to see h er leave, b u t I know there are even bigger things for her to accomplish in the future. I look forward to watching her continue her softball career at the collegiate level.” More Letters to the Editor Sober life mal.
