The Golden Gloves tourna ments are open to amateur box ers ages 16 and older. B y D a ve M c M e c h a n Spilyay Tymoo Jasper Smith will compete this weekend in the G olden Gloves Regional Boxing Tour nament. The two-day competition is being held in the Oasis Casino in Mesquite, Nevada. Smith trains at the Commu nity Center with other members o f the Warm Springs Boxing Club, coached by Austin Smith and Vernon Smith Sr. Jasper is 18 years old, and a se n io r at M adras H igh School. T he regional to urnam ent draws the best young boxers from Oregon, Washington, Ne vada and Arizona. The semi-final fights will be on Saturday, March 29'. For the semi-finals, there will be four boxers in each of th e v arious w eight classes. Smith is fighting in the 141- pound group. The winners of the semi-fi nals will then fight again on Sun day for the regional champion ships. The winners of those fights then go to the national Golden Gloves Tournament o f Cham pions. A scramble golf tourna ment to benefit the Warm Springs Rodeo Association is set for the Kah-Nee-Ta G olf Course. The scramble will be in the four-person fo rm a t.
