Assistance available to local ag producers Local agricultural producers interested in financial arid tech nical assistance for conservation measures on their working lands have-until October 31 to apply for Environmental Quality In centives Program funding, for federal fiscal year 2008. ’ , The Environfnental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary conservation pro gram that assists farmers and ranchers improve and enhance the condition of water, soil, and other natural resources on agri cultural lands. The program is designed to help producers protect the re sources that support their op erations and contribute to envi ronmental quality for the over all community. . The USDA-Natural Re sources Conservation Service (NRCS) accepts applications for EQIP year-round. Funding de cisions j however, are made at cutoff points during the year, with the current ranking period closing on October 31 for the following counties: Jefferson and Wasco located with the Warm Springs Reservation. Applications that address lo- cal conservation priorities are evaluated and ranked for hand ing. The number of applications accepted will be based on rank ing and available handing. Conservation practices eli- gible for handing in both coun ties include: water development, cross fencings juniper control and prescribed grazing* just to name a few. Tony Stevens, and atwai Apolonia Susana Santos, along with artists from other tribes of the Columbia. Nch’i-Wana is dedicated to Apolonia Susana Santos, Tygh Yakama, who provided vision and guidance during the early planning phases for this show. The art show and events cel ebrate the Native American arts of Nch’i-Wana, Wasco for “the fig River.” The celebrationis set for Oct 5-29. The art show opening will be on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Cohom- bia Center for the Arts. Artist reception is from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with artist panel discussion to follow. The l fallowing day at Skamania Lodge will be the “She Who Watches” petroglyph tour, from 9 a.m., tp 3 p.m. The art show opening at the lodge will be on Saturday, Oct.6 from 5-6 p.m., and the artist panel discussion to follow. : More special events, includ ing traditional arts demonsrtations, are scheduled through October 29.
