Leslie Mitts/Spilyay Warm Springs 4-H Social Dance Group members rehearse for “Voice of My Ancestors.” By Leslie M itts Spilyay Tymoo, Students with the 4-H So cial Dance Group had the chance to perform as part of a much larger show with singer-songwriter Karen Therese recently. ; Therese sought out local youth' to help her with her new show, “Voice of My An cestors.” The youth performed with the show in Portland last weekend, and will perform in Bend at the Tower Theatre in Bend this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 28 the show will be at 11 a.ni. and 7 p.m., while on Saturday the 29* the show will be at 2 p.m. Featuring songs from her new CD, “Voice of My; Ances- tors” is a musical and dance performance of Therese’s poi gnant and powerful songwriting honoring her Native American, African and Scottish ancestry. “Voice O f My Ancestors” features some of the finest musicians on the West Coast including bassist A1 Criado, pia nist Brian Ward, acoustic Gui tarist Mario Diaz, drummer Drew Shoals and violinist Eddy Parente. Native American traditional dancers—women’s fancy shawl a#d men’sfancyandgr^ssdanc- Montana lead our four-per son dance group. The seven youth from the 4-H Social Dance Group per formed as the Native Ameri can Youth Choir, while some also performed the paddle dance.
