Page 6 Spilyay Tyrooo, Warm Springs, Oregon August 3Q, 2007 Tribes help sponsor ‘Day for the River’ To help sjponsor the occassion, the Confederated Tribes have granted the DRC special access to the tribal side o f the Lower Deschutes for a fly fishing event. The coveted fly fishing trips will be auctioned o ff at the DRC Tight lines Auction and Barbecue Dinner on Thursday, September 6. Through the auc tion, between 50 to 60 people Will be granted access to fish the tribal side, said Armstrong. Their boats will be flagged to indicate they have the necessary permission. The BLM will be patrolling and monitoring for proper use o f the river, said Armstrong. In addition to the fly fishing trips, on that one day folks will have an opportunity to experi- ence the entire river from its headw aters in the Cascade Mountaihs^ to the mouth at the Columbia River. Throughout the Deschutes Basin, the DRC provide the chance tp enjoy the river by fish ing, rafting, canoeing, or hiking. Sòme o f these activities will have a fee associated with them and others will be free of charge. “Our hope is to increase the level o f awareness about our natural resources and to inspire the community to give back to this tremendous resource that we have here in Central Oregon, the D eschutes River,” said Armstrong. LUSH BLANKETS Many helped w ith first feast race The First Annual Huckle berry Feast Endurance Race was held in earyl August at the HeHe rodeo grounds. There were two fields: 12 and under, and 13 to 17 years; of- age. The race went off with out a hitch thanks to the gen erosity o f several sponors and volunteers. Louis Stewart took first with Clarence McKinley in a close second. Third place went to Ahliyah Hisatake. The most inspirational rider of the day was Charles Yallup.. Charles and his horse, Magic, attempted to start during the younger age division, but despite Charles’ encouragement, his horse refused to go. Charles persevered and ran in the older age bracket, finishing to much applause. Great job on the ef- fort, Charles! Again we would like to say a big “Thank you!” to all the sponsors.
