Estate plans free to members
R oberta A rm strong, o f
the University o f Washington
Law School, will be in Warm
Sprin gs fo r the next few
weeks, helping tribal mem
bers with estate planning.
The service is free to tribal
members, and is o f increas
ing importance, because o f
recent federal legislation.
The goal o f the program,
Armstrong says, “is to keep
tribal land in tribal members’
hands.”
Because o f a change in
federal law governing dispo
sition o f property following
a tribal m ember’s passing,
having a will has taken on
g re a tei im portan ce, said
Armstrong.
Th e law d ictates how
property will be distributed
following the passing o f a
tribal member who does not
have a will.
The way to avoid the situ
ation, and côiifrôÎ the distri
bution o f the estate, is to
have a will, said Armstrong.
Armstrong has her office
at the Family Resource Cen
ter. She will be in Warm
Springs until August 13.
