Grant assists in arson prevention

be part of the Oregon College
of Art and Craft exhibition dur
ing November in Madras.
The exhibition opens Satur
day, Nov. 4, and runs through
Nov. 29, at the A rt Adventures
G allery at 185 Fifth St., M a
dras.
Stephens was admitted this
fall as a full-time student at the
O regon C ollege o f A rt and
Craft in Portland.
He was selected from a large
number of applicants to go to

during an open house cel
ebration for fire prevention
week.
FM Global awarded the
grant, worth over $2,000, in
order to assist the department
in targeting arson prevention.
Wayne Fish, group man
ager for FM Global, spoke
to Fire and Safety employees
about the importance of pre
venting arson.
Arson, he said, is the sec
ond-leading cause of fire to
day.
As for his company, Fish
said, “We are a property in
surance com pany w ith an
unusual focus on loss preven
tion.”
This grant in particular is
unusual, according to Fish,
because Warm Springs Fire
and Safety is also an FM Glo
bal client.
“That’s a pretty rare oc

investigated using money out of
the general budget for Fire and

ment like digital cameras and to
get new, advanced training for
employees.
In this area arson is relatively
common, Bagley-Tias said.
One reason is that it includes
all types of intentionally-started
fires—including structural fires
and grass fires.
