The father’s par ents are the late David Andrews and the late Nadene Mitchell. The mother’s parents are Ri chard Wolfe Sr., and Martha Tias, and Cena Wolfe. Great grandparents are Carol Craig and Bernice Mitchell. Delvis Gleason George Jr. Delvis George and Olivia Gleason o f Warm Springs are pleased to announce the birth of their son Delvis Gleason George Jr., born September 27, 2006. The father’s parents are the late Frank George o f Tacoma, and Alexandria Henry o f Warm Springs. M other’s parents are Valena Sargeant o f Warm Springs, and the late Robert Gleason. She was 17. Tawney was born Jan. 12, 1989, in Madras, to parents Lisa Smith and Ian Tohet. She would have been a junior at Madras High School. She enjoyed playing soft- ball, basketball, going to dances, walking by Shitike Creek, biking, writing, poetry, cruising, drawing, and listen ing to music. She attended the Warm Springs Presbyte rian Church. She worked at Warm Springs Early Childhood Education Center, and also babysat for numerous rela tives and others. She had many Hispanic friends in the Madras area. She lived in Warm Springs and Madras, and stayed in Bend and Portland after being diagnosed with cancer one year ago. Survivors include her par- ents Lisa Smith and Ian Tohet o f Warm Springs; broth er, Harvey Jason Tohet o f Warm Springs; grandparents, Ina Culpus T oh et, Iris Kalam a Sm ith, Harvey Jason Tohet, Alex Sm ith, Lucy and Lee Gadberry,. She is also survived by nu merous immediate family mem bers in the families o f Smith, K alam a, Culpus, T oh et, Rodriguez, Sampson, Picard, W ahsise, Crane, B ru n oe, Sanchez, Canales, Charley, Suppah, and Jim. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Woodrow Smith Sr., and Harvey Jason Tohet; and cousins, Richard Crane and Chad Smith. Funeral services were held O ct. 7, at A gency L on g h ou se in W arm Springs, officiated by Rich ard Tohet. Burial was at the Agency Cemetery in Warm Springs. The casket bearers were Dabid Rodriguez, Ross Eagle Culpus, Ethan Smith, Gibson Danzuka, Mikal Teem an, R enso Rodriguez, Clem Picard, Preston Jo h n so n , M itchell W h itefo o t and Michael Kalama. H onorary bearers in cluded all classmates and best friends (todos los estudiantes y todos mis am igos), Jefferson County middle and high school personnel, imme diate family, and all health care professionals who cared for Tawney. Memorial contributions have been suggested in her name to the Oregon Health Sciences University, Oncol ogy Department. Howlak Tichum (Continued from page 1) Martinefz, or “Marty” as he was known to his family, always had a quick smile and made friends wherever he traveled. Martinez, on more than one occasion, mentioned how he rode with the great Willie Shoemaker. “Shoemaker was called ‘the shoe’ and 1 was called ‘the m o ccasin ,”’ Heath chuckled. In the mid 1990’s, when the tribe was getting ready to open a casino at Kah-Nee-Ta, Marty applied for a job. The General Manager told him she couldn’t hire him without a GED. The next day Martinez was back with his GED. The Gen eral Manager was stunned. Martinez had passed his G E D test with one o f the highest scores ever achieved Martinez Heath at Warm Springs. His smile at the graduation cerem ony told those who watched that his victory was as big as any he had experienced in his illustrious jockey career. Martinez Heath was one o f nine children born to Nathan and Lilly Heath. Martinez is survived by two daughters, Mariah Martina Heath and Tiffany Rose Heath, and three grand children, all o f California. O th er survivors include b roth ers, Warm Springs Chief Delvis Heath, Sanders and Benson Heath, and sis ter Nola Queahpama: all of Warm Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Bel Air Funeral Home in Madras is in charge o f the arrangements. The dressing will be at the Sim nasho Longhouse Wednesday afternoon (10/ 18/06) with overnight ser vices to follow.
